“Steal the glass” Blue Bee Cider celebrates International Women’s Day

RICHMOND, VA (TERESAREPORTS) – Blue Bee Cider in Scott’s Addition will celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday.

The business will host a “steal the glass” night where customers can take home the glass of any cider poured from the tap.

Blue Bee is a woman-owned business. Owner and General Manager, Courtney Anderson Mailey will be at the cidery, and encouraged customers to ask her questions about what it’s like to be a woman and own a business in the beverage industry.

“The Virginia cider industry has a disproportionately high number of woman in ownership and leadership roles,” Mailey told TeresaReports. “So I feel lucky to have a strong peer network of woman owners, in addition to some great men in Virginia cider.”

Blue Bee Cider opened its tasting room in Apr. 2013, and relocated to Scott’s Addition in 2016.

“There are as many ways for a woman to live her life in this world as there are for men,” said Mailey. “Celebrating the many ways that women overcome adversity and live full lives is important for young people to see.”

Blue Bee has celebrated International Women’s Day in the past with other women in the cider industry.

“We have always recognized the accomplishments of women year round,” she said. “For example, last year we co-hosted a fundraising dinner for the Human Trafficking Institute with the other women in Virginia‚Äôs cider industry.”

Mailey said her hope is for more women to start their own business, no matter which field they choose.

“Cider is in many ways a manufacturing business,” Mailey said. “I would like to see more women owning and operating manufacturing companies.”

Mailey offered advice to anyone who wants to open a business or follow their dream.

“It will be very, very hard,” she said. “Harder than you can possibly imagine. Do it anyways.”

The “steal the glass” portion of the celebration is on Mar. 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
