Robeson County Sheriff identifies skeletal remains as that of missing 55-year-old woman

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (TERESAREPORTS) – The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office identified the skeletal remains found on Feb. 27.

The remains were identified as Susan McGirt, 55, of Mount Moriah Church Road.

“I have prayed and prayed for closure and God answered those prayers,” McGirt’s daughter, Mary Wesson, told TeresaReports. “It isn’t the kind of closure I wanted, but at least now we can put her to rest, and we don’t have to worry about where she is or if she’s safe or not.”

The remains were found near railroad tracks on Powersville Road in Lumberton.

“Sadly, with great sadness, we are reporting that the remains located along the railroad tracks off Barker Ten Mile Road on February 27, 2019 were those of Susan McGirt,” said Robeson County Sheriff, Burnis Wilkins. “I ask that you please be mindful in your comments as we offer prayers and support to her family and friends. Thank you.”

A cause of death has not been determined by the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office, according to officials.

  1. Please don’t let this happen to another family. With all the people that go missing in this county, more should have been done to find her!

  2. My dear sister in law and friend, much love to you and rest now for God says your job is done. But I want to thank you for all the love and fondness that you bestowed on me over the past many years. Susan was a great mother, person and friend and may she rest peacefully in the arms of her Heavenly Father. I loved you Susan and will always. God be with you now Fly high angle.
