NICHOLS, SC (TERESAREPORTS) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation said Highway 76 going towards Mullins will re-open Friday evening.
The highway is Nichols’ main road, and has been closed since Hurricane Florence hit in September.
Nichols’ Mayor, Lawson Battle, told TeresaReports he’s excited to see the road re-open.
“It’s going to be great!,” he exclaimed. “It’s a big help for safety reasons. [For] Fire, EMS, [and] police, it saves a lot of time.”
Battle said the re-opening of that part of the highway is a step to rebuild the town.
“It’s really good for the town,” Battle said. “People don’t realize how good some things in life are until they’re gone.”
The town’s only convenience store, Sunny Mart, re-opened nearly three months after Hurricane Florence hit the area.
