ROBESON COUNTY, NC (TERESAREPORTS) – The funeral service for the missing woman whose skeletal remains were found in February will be held on Monday.
Susan McGirt, 55, was reported missing in July last year. Her remains were found near railroad tracks on Powersville Road in Lumberton.
“I’d give anything to put my arms around her one more time,” said Mary Wesson, McGirt’s daughter. “I tried with everything I had in me to bring her home safe.”
Wesson said she prayed for closure every day after her mother went missing.
“This has been eight long months of pure agony,” she told TeresaReports. “You try to keep pushing forward, and hold onto faith, but that’s so hard to do when your loved one is nowhere to be found.”
Wesson said her mother battled mental health for years, and was diagnosed with bipolar schizophrenia.
“Mama fought 34 years with her mental health issues, and now she’s finally at peace,” Wesson said.
McGirt’s daughter said she was worried when her mother went missing because she knew McGirt wasn’t on her medication.
“You believe in your heart that you will get to see her face one more time and then you realize you never will,” she said. “Not here on Earth anyway.”
McGirt’s funeral service will be held Mar. 11 at 3 p.m. at Revels Funeral Home.
